Hatcher Pass Management Plan

This plan was originally adopted in 1986 by the State Departments of Natural Resources, Fish and Game, and Transportation and Public Facilities. The plan covered all public land (approximately 216,000 acres) in an area bounded by the Talkeetna Mountains to the north and east. Wasilla and Palmer are located just south of the area, Willow to the west, and the Matanuska Valley Moose Range to the east.

Within this large area, the approximately 11,000-acre Government Peak Sub-Unit lies on the eastern portion of the planning area. The Hatcher Pass Project lies entirely within this Sub-Unit.

In 1989, the Hatcher Pass Management Plan was amended to address land use issues on state-owned land (approximately 7,500 acres) related to a proposed four-season resort. including ski area development, within the Government Peak Sub-Unit. This plan has not been amended since 1989, but is currently in the process of being revised by the State Department of Natural Resources. This revision will be done in conjunction with the adoption process of the Hatcher Pass Special Land Use District.
