Skilak Lake Road to Sterling
The State of Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (DOT&PF) is proposing to rehabilitate the Sterling Highway from Mile Post (MP) 58 to 79. The primary objective of this project is to extend the service life of the road. Generally, the project may consist of:
- repaving the existing highway
- shoulder widening
- repairing, replacing, or extending existing drainage and fish passage culverts
- evaluating the need for passing lanes and slow-vehicle turnouts
- evaluating the need for wildlife mitigation
Success will be a rehabilitated highway for the Sterling Highway from MP 58 to 79. A brisk schedule will be maintained through the various stages of the project to result in construction of the facility beginning in 2013.
Current Project Status
The project team recently kicked off the project and is in the preliminary stages of research and conceptual design.
